AEE NATIONAL FORM

Attendees are encouraged to complete a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) Exam Application or Energy Manager in Training (EMIT) Exam Application 3-4 weeks prior to taking the exam. If an applicant doesn’t meet one of the CEM eligibility criteria, they can still apply for the Energy Manager In-Training certification, EMIT. The EMIT certification is valid for six years, which allows applicants time to meet the full CEM certification eligibility requirements. Anyone who misses the 3-week deadline for the application submittal can still take the exam, but will need to complete an application waiver form on exam day, and then submit the CEM or EMIT application at a later date. We encourage all students to submit the application ahead of time so they can be pre-approved for the certification. If you have any questions regarding the application process, please contact Crystal Xiong / 770-447-5083 x.218 / crystal@aeecenter.org.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

Prior to the training, students should review:

Students should bring to the training:

  • Calculator – Allowed calculators include scientific, business/financial or graphing calculator, unless it has internet capability. For example, TI 30, 30x, 35 and 35x range will work well. Business/Financial calculators offer the ability to quickly check ‘time value of money’ computations. Prohibited Calculators: Smartphones, tablet, or laptop computers, including PDAs, electronic writing pads or pen-input devices, calculators built into cell phones or any other electronic communication devices.

BetterBricks Presents: High-Performance Window & HVAC Solutions

About this Event

Join the Columbia River Chapter of AEE on March 10th for our next Energy Engineering Forum, brought to you by NEEA’s BetterBricks initiative and sponsored by Energy Trust of Oregon.

This educational session will cover two promising commercial building solutions—secondary windows and very high efficiency dedicated outside air systems (DOAS)—and how envelope and HVAC upgrades like these can be sequenced for even greater energy savings and tenant comfort. This session will provide an overview of these proven technologies and design approaches, including energy savings potential, building owner and tenant benefits and example case studies from real world projects.

This event is free to attend. Members of the local AEE Columbia River Chapter will receive certificates of attendance and professional development hours.

AEE CRC Donates Scholarship 2021

Columbia River Chapter donates scholarship through the Renewable Energy Scholarship Foundation

RESF will award five or six scholarships in 2021 based upon academic merit, accomplishments in the field, and demonstrated interest.

One is reserved for an early undergraduate (preferably community college) student; one for a late undergraduate; one for an early graduate student; and the last two are available to students at any level (but are most likely to go to late graduate students).   At least one of these five scholarships will be awarded to a diversity candidate, defined as ethnic and racial minorities; first-generation college students; lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students; and students with physical disabilities.

Each scholarship is a cash award of $2000 with no strings attached. Qualifications and submission requirements are below.  We award scholarships on an equal opportunity basis, consistent with the restrictions above.

Providing Safe Air and Energy Efficiency in the Wake of COVID-19

• Wed, November 4, 2020 (12:00 PM – 1:00 PM PST) •

Covid-19 has brought health and safety challenges we didn’t foresee twelve months ago. The pandemic prompted the question; can we still provide a safe indoor environment without sacrificing energy efficiency in commercial buildings?

This presentation will present some best practices and real-world findings demonstrating that – yes, you can have both! Mitigation strategies to be discussed include:

  • Comfort controls with air-pressure management
  • Hi-MERV, low resistance, anti-bacterial outdoor and indoor HVAC filters
  • Duct mounted Photo-Catalytic Oxidation to kill the remaining airborne and surface virus, bacteria, and fungus

A case study will be shared validating this approach including indoor/outdoor particulate matter sensor data, laboratory testing results of surface swabs, and in-house data trending from building control systems.

Speaker: William Hickner, Unity Controls

Bill is CTO and Partner at Unity Energy Solutions Group Corporation, also known as Unity Controls, Established in 2015. Unity is an HVAC software, firmware, and controls integrator based in Bainbridge Island, WA. Prior to joining Unity Controls, Bill was a partner at Kite and Lightning from 2010 to 2015, and a partner at (ESMS) Energy Savings Management Systems from 1997 to 2010. ESMS was the first automated-controls company to be awarded a prescriptive incentive by the ETO in 2003. All three businesses focused on the goal of energy conservation using automated controls.
